Wall St. Journal: Hotel Maid May Settle for Money; Lawyers Seek Deal to Trash Criminal Case of DSK

The Euro News website reports today (August 19, 2011) that lawyers for the woman who accused former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Khan of sexual assault have explored a deal in which they would scuttle the criminal case in exchange for a monetary settlement in the civil lawsuit.

Kenneth Thompson -- the woman's lawyer -- denied the report, which appears in today's Wall Street Journal. The Journal -- sourced to unidentified people briefed on the matter -- stands by its report.

The report comes less than a week before the August 23rd scheduled court hearing in which Strauss-Khan is due to appear before a judge for the first time since he was freed from house arrest on July 1.

Nafissatou Diallo -- the hotel maid who alleged Strauss-Khan sexually assaulted her on May 14 -- filed a civil claim against him last week in New York, while the separate criminal case has been floundering due to her damaged credibility, resulting from her lies to investigators.
