Presbyterians May Create "New Reformed Body;" Conservatives Upset Church Allows Gay Clergy

The Christian Post website reports today (August 22, 2011) that the Presbyterian Church (USA) -- three months after allowing the ordination of openly gay clergy -- is headed for a split, as nearly 2,000 conservative Presbyterians are gathering in Minneapolis on August 25 and 26 with the creation of a "new Reformed body" on its agenda.

Making preparations for the conference is the Rev. Paul Detterman, executive director of Presbyterians for Renewal -- an independent organization based in Louisville, Kentucky -- where the denomination's headquarters are.

Jack Haberer -- editor of the independent Presbyterian Outlook Journal -- said the conference is "a potentially historic event, perhaps the beginning of yet another denomination division."
