Vandals Spray Jewish Memorial in Czech Republic; Police Are Investigating the Case as Hooliganism

The Prague Daily Monitor website reports today (August 15, 2011) that unknown vandals sprayed a memorial to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust in Ostrava, Czech Republic over the weekend.

"The perpetrators sprayed the memorial with anti-Semitic symbols," said police spokeswoman Gabriela Holcakova.

Police are investigating the case as hooliganism -- damage to others' things and defamation of a nation, race, and an ethnic or other group of persons.

"The perpetrators face up to two years in prison," Holcakova said.
