First Gay Episcopal Bp. Gene Robinson to Retire; Boston Gay Pastor William Rich May Succeed Him

The Christian Post website reports today (May 1, 2012) that another gay man may succeed the retiring Bishop Gene Robinson -- the first openly gay bishop in The Episcopal Church -- the Diocese of New Hampshire announced.

The Rev. William Rich -- a married homosexual -- is senior associate rector at Trinity Church in Boston, and is one of three candidates for the position of bishop.

A 200-mamber panel -- including clergy and elected delegates -- will vote by secret ballot on May 19 for a new bishop.

Robinson -- who has lived with his partner (Mark Andrew) for more than 20 years -- said that constant death threats and gay criticism he has received over the years have added a burden and anxiety to his episcopate, and tired him out.
