Canadian Student Suspended Over a Jesus T-Shirt; Lawyer:School's Punitive Effort Was Inappropriate

The Christian Today website reports today (May 6, 2012) that a teenage Canadian student was suspended last week for wearing a yellow T-shirt to school that reads "Life is Wasted Without Jesus."

William Swimmer -- a 19-year-old Nova Scotia resident who attends Forest Heights Community School in Chester Basin -- was given a five-day school suspension for wearing the shirt.

Faye Sonier -- legal counsel for the Center for Faith and Public Life of the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada -- said the school's disciplinary efforts were "inappropriate."

"The student was simply exercising his rights to freedom of expression and religion," Sonier said.
