Girl, 16, Killed in Bombing of School in S. Italy; School Named for Wife of Slain Anti-Mafia Judge

The Daily Beast website reports that a 16-year-old girl was killed and seven others were wounded today (May 19, 2012), after a bombing at an Italian girls' school that some believe was a strike by the Mafia.

The school in southern Italy is named for the wife of a slain anti-Mafia judge.

The bombing comes soon after the 20-year anniversary of the murder of judge Giovanni Falcone and his wife.

"You can understand the symbolism of this and what it all signifies," Mimmo Consales, mayor of the town of Brindisi, told reporters.
