The Trump administration yesterday decided to pull out of all international agreements that could involve rulings by the UN's International Court of Justice (ICJ), the Reuters website reports today (October 3, 2018).
Yesterday, the ICJ handed a victory to Iran, ordering the U.S. to ensure that sanctions against Iran do not affect humanitarian aid or civil aviation safety.
The U.S. national security adviser, John Bolton, slammed the world court as "politicised and ineffective," and announced that the U.S. would review all international agreements that could expose it to binding decisions by the ICJ.
"We will commence a review of all international agreements that may still expose the United States to purported binding jurisdiction, dispute resolution in the International Court of Justice," Bolton said. "The United States will not sit idly by as baseless politicised claims are brought against us."
