A caravan of Central American migrants marching into Mexico bound for the U.S. grew to over 5,000 people today (October 21, 2018), despite threats from President Donald Trump to use the U.S. military to seal off the border, according to the USA Today website.
The throng -- mostly from Honduras -- streamed across a bridge over the Suchiate River, connecting Guatemala with Mexico.
Many of the migrants cited poverty, corruption, and gang violence in Honduras for their flight.
Trump said, "People have to apply for asylum in Mexico first, and if they fail to do that, the U.S. will turn them away."
