US Monitors Secret N.Korean Mil.Base in Syria; Believed Being Built for Nuclear-Related Usage

The U.S. is monitoring intelligence information indicating that North Korea may be building a large underground military base in Syria that could be used for advanced weaponry and nuclear-related work, the Free Beacon website reports today (March 15, 2018).

The information indicates that North Korea has neared completion of the construction of an underground military base located near Qardaha in Syria, the hometown of embattled Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

According to satellite images, the underground facility has been under construction since March 2011 when Syria's ongoing civil war began.

U.S. officials told the Washington Free Beacon they are monitoring this situation and efforts by North Korea to help Assad rebuild Syria's chemical weapons factories.
