Md. Court Rules Bladensburg Cross Be Removed; American Legion Appeals Case to Supreme Court

A three-judge panel of the Fourth Circuit Court ruled yesterday in favor of an atheist group's lawsuit demanding that the Bladensburg Cross be removed from an intersection in Maryland, the Christian Post website reports today (March 2, 2018).

In one of the dissenting opinions, Judge Paul Niemeyer warned that the court's decision "needlessly puts at risk hundreds of monuments with similar symbols standing on public grounds across the country, such as those in nearby Arlington National Cemetery."

Hiram Sasser, deputy counsel for First Liberty, denounced the court decision as a "dangerous precedent for veterans memorials and cemeteries across America..."

He added, "The American Legion will appeal this case to the U.S. Supreme Court."
