In order to provide more time for young children to learn and socialize, President Emmanuel Macron announced today (March 27, 2018) that children in France will soon be required to start school at the age of three, according to the Euro News website.
The new measure -- which will go into effect in September 2019 -- significantly lowers the compulsory school age, which currently starts at six.
The move by Macron will give France the lowest age for beginning compulsory schooling in Europe.
The majority of countries in Europe require their children to begin their schooling at age five or six.
