Eight Turkish soldiers were killed in northern Syria in clashes with Kurds yesterday, the UPI website reports today (March 2, 2018).
The Turkish army said the eight soldiers died in Afrin province -- where Turkish troops have attacked Kurds -- and 13 other Turkish soldiers were injured.
Turkey launched the offensive on January 20 to kill Kurds, whom it considers a threat to its border with Syria. (The Kurds have been supported by the U.S. during the past two years in their heroic fighting to help defeat the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group in Syria, despite Turkey's resentment of this support.)
A Turkish helicopter was also struck while attempting to rescue wounded soldiers and was forced to turn back.
