Abercrombie & Fitch Must Pay Woman $20,000; Store Refused to Hire Her for Wearing Head Scarf

A Tulsa, Oklahoma jury has decided that the Abercrombie and Fitch clothing chain will have to pay a Muslim woman for refusing to hire her, because she wears a head scarf for religious reasons.

After a three-year fight, Samantha Elauf, 20, has been awarded $20,000 in a discrimination lawsuit, the Euro News website reports today (July 21, 2011).

Abercrombie and Fitch refused to hire her in 2008 because managers say her head scarf violated the company's "look policy."

Elauf says she wanted to sue, not just for herself, but for all Muslim girls.
