Dalai Lama: "Everyone Wants a Happy World;" Speaks on Overcoming Religious Intolerance

The Voice of America website reports today (July 21, 2011) that the Dalai Lama -- the 76-year-old Tibetan spiritual leader -- wrapped up a two-week visit to the United States by speaking on July 18 to a packed crowd in Chicago about overcoming religious intolerance.

His visit to Chicago -- which was sponsored by the Theosophical Society in America -- included a panel discussion with several U.S. religious leaders.

As he took the stage -- next to Christian, Jewish, and Muslim leaders -- the Dalai Lama focused not on their differences, but on the common ground their faiths share, even with non-believers.

Speaking before thousands of people at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance in Chicago's Millenium Park, the Dalai Lama said, "Everyone wants a happy world. Nobody wants trouble. Nobody wants violence. And everybody wants a more peaceful, happy society."
