The Christian Today website reports that Israel opened a new baptism site this week on the Jordan River, where it is traditionally believed Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist.
The site lies close to an Israeli military post in the Jordan Valley and had to be cleared of landmines left over from years of hostility between Israel and Jordan.
The Israeli site cost $2.3 million to renovate, with a large part of the money having to be spent on clearing mines from the area.
Christian leaders and Israeli minister for regional development, Silvan Shalom, were present at the July 12, 2011 ceremony to formally open the site.

Is this near Beth-Bara or Nim-ra?
ReplyDeleteAs I checked the original article for more information, all I could find was that the baptismal site that was opened this week is in Qasr el Yahud, where John the Baptist baptized Jesus. It is near the West Bank town of Jericho.
ReplyDeleteI hope the above info answers your question.
