The Christian Today website reports that the General Secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC), Dr. Olav Fykse Tveit, has spoken of his shock at the violent attacks that left scores dead in Norway yesterday (July 22, 2011).
Seven people were killed in a bomb attack on the government building in Oslo, the capital of Norway, before a gunman opened fire at a youth camp on the tiny island of Utoeya, killing at least 84 more people.
Anders Behring Breivik -- a 32-year-old man believed to be a Christian fundamentalist -- has been arrested by police in connection with both attacks.
WCC head Dr. Tveit -- a Norwegian Lutheran pastor who left Oslo yesterday shortly before the bomb attack -- expressed his sorrow over both attacks, and called on churches worldwide to pray for Norway.
