By the year 2040, Muslims will replace Jews as the second-largest religious group in the U.S. after Christians, based on the projections by a leading American think tank, the Euro News website reports today (January 5, 2017).
Pew Research Center estimates there were some 3.45 million Muslims living in the U.S. in 2017.
While Pew says there are more people in the U.S. today who are Jewish, it predicts there will be more Muslims by the year 2040.
"The U.S. Muslim population will grow much faster than the country's Jewish population," the research center explained, citing a 2017 survey of U.S. Muslims and official census data as the basis for its prediction.
