Senior officials from Greece and FYROM (Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) met today (January 9, 2018) to renew efforts to resolve the countries' ongoing name dispute, according to the Greek Reporter website.
FYROM Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs Bujar Osmani spoke to reporters in Athens after a meeting with Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias and other senior officials.
Osmani said FYROM was committed to finding a resolution for a name change within six months.
The name dispute remains an emotional topic in Greece, which sees FYROM's name as an attempt to claim jurisdiction over a bordering northern Greek province called Macedonia -- the birthplace of Alexander the Great.
