NJ Mom Sues School for Islamic Indoctrination; Says Middle School Tried to Convert Son to Islam

A New Jersey mother is suing officials and teachers in her son's middle school, charging that seventh-grade students were subjected to Islamist propaganda and explicit calls to convert to Islam, the Clarion Project website reports today (January 29, 2018).

The suit -- filed in a U.S. district court against Chatham Middle School -- claims the students' First Amendment rights were violated in a World Cultures and Geography class.

Libby Hilsenrath, whose son was exposed to the course material, brought her concerns to the attention of the local school board, but they were disregarded.

Richard Thompson, a lawyer who represents Hilsenrath in the lawsuit, remarked: "What would people say if our public schools taught Christianity as the true faith?" He called the course "Islamic indoctrination."
