At least 22 people have been killed in two car bombs near a mosque in the Libyan city of Benghazi, The World Bulletin website reports today (January 23, 2018).

Some 20 to 30 more people were wounded by the blasts, which took place within minutes of each other.

The first vehicle blew up in front of a mosque in the central al-Sleimani neighborhood, as worshippers were leaving the building after evening prayers. The second car exploded shortly afterwards in the same area.

It is not yet clear who was behind the attacks, but the Islamic State (IS) terror group has gained a foothold in Libya where it has carried out attacks in the past.
