An Iraqi court today (January 21, 2018) sentenced to death a German woman of Moroccan origin for Islamic State (IS) membership, according to the Reuters website.
The German national was captured by Iraqi forces during the battle for Mosul, last year, a spokesman said, declining to identify her. She is the first foreign woman to be sentenced to death in Iraq for joining the militant group.
The woman was convicted of participating in attacks on Iraqi security forces and offering the terrorist group logistical support.
Iraq declared victory last month over the Islamic State, which had seized control of nearly one-third of the country in 2014. However, IS continues to carry out bombings and other terror attacks in the country from time to time.
