Syrian Government Airstrikes Kill 19 Children; Kill Another 80 Civilians in Rebel-Held Douma

Nineteen children are among the dead today (February 7, 2018) after a round of airstrikes by the Syrian government on a rebel-controlled enclave near Damascus, according to the Sky News website.

The town of Douma in Eastern Ghouta was under siege today with the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reporting that 34 people had been killed and about 200 more wounded in the bombardment.

It came less than 24 hours after the region -- controlled by rebel factions -- suffered some of the worst bloodshed in years, with 80 civilians killed by regime warplanes.

More than 340,000 people have been killed and millions displaced since Syria's civil war erupted in March 2011.
