Eleven Turkish Troops Killed in Syria Offensive; Bloodiest Day Yet in Turkey's Battle with Kurds

Eleven Turkish soldiers were killed yesterday -- including two military personnel when a helicopter was shot down -- in the bloodiest day in Ankara's offensive against a Kurdish militia in northern Syria, according to the AFP (Agence France-Presse) website.

On January 20, Turkey launched a military operation against the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) militia in the Afrin region of Syria with air strikes and ground troops.

The Turkish military said two people were killed when a helicopter was shot down, and nine more soldiers were killed in separate incidents.

It was the offensive's bloodiest day for Turkish military personnel, the army said.
