Haley to UN:Syria Is Using Chemicals in Idlib; Scores of Civilians Show Signs of Chlorine Gas

In what may well be a prelude to President Trump bombing Syria with scores of missiles again, the United Nations Security Council met today (February 5, 2018)  to discuss Syria, amid new reports of chemical weapons being used in that country, according to the VOA News website.

"We have reports that the (Bashar al) Assad regime has used chlorine gas against its people multiple times in recent weeks, including just yesterday," U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley told council members. "There is obvious evidence from dozens of victims."

Medical groups and first responders in Syria reported several civilians had signs consistent with chlorine gas, including breathing problems and the smell of chlorine on their clothes, after a reported chemical attack on the town of Saraqeb in Idlib province yesterday.

Radi Saad of the civilian defense group, the White Helmets, said that the chemicals were dropped in two barrels from helicopters. The Syrian army -- backed by Russian jets and Iranian-supported militias -- has conducted a military offensive to take back rebel-controlled Idlib province, where fierce fighting has been taking place since December.
