A new survey shows that nearly 40 percent of adult U.S. citizens will stay away from the polls this November, but according to the study, if those Americans were to cast a ballot, President Barack Obama would coast to a second term, the One News Now website reports today (August 21, 2012).
According to the Suffolk University-USA Today nationwide survey of unregistered and unlikely voters, 90 million citizens who are eligible to vote will not cast a ballot in the upcoming general election.
David Paleologos -- director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center -- says those who tend not to vote are from the lower-income, younger, higher-minority, and more religious segments of the population.
"Although they have a predisposed positive feeling about Barack Obama, it's sort of trumped by their disdain for the political system, their sort of unyielding anguish for where they're at in their lives due to the bad economy, and their general displeasure with the government, especially federal government," Paleologos tells One News Now.
