COMMENTARY: UN and US Must Quickly End Crucifixions by Muslim Brotherhood

It was revealed this week that the Muslim Brotherhood government in Egypt whipped and crucified several secular protesters in Cairo last week -- a barbaric and inhumane means of punishment that reminds us of Jesus' torture and crucifixion.

The Muslim Brotherhood-backed mobs rampaged through Cairo's streets, seized protesters against President Mohammad Morsi's government, whipped them, and then crucified them naked on trees.

We believe that there is no way that such savage acts should be allowed to exist in the 21st century. It was horrendous when such acts existed some 2,000 years ago -- when Jesus was crucified -- but there is no excuse for them to exist in a civilized society today.

The fact that the United States and the United Nations have "looked the other way" -- instead of implementing severe retaliatory action against the Muslim Brotherhood government -- is almost as shocking as the inhumane acts themselves.

We believe that it is imperative that the United Nations and the United States take immediate action -- even military action, if necessary -- to end these barbaric punitive acts in Egypt once and for all.

Just why such barbaric and inhumane acts are allowed to occur in our civilized society today is an anachronism that is  beyond comprehension.

Indeed, these brutal acts convey that man can still be like the vicious animal  he was when he crucified Jesus some 2,000 years ago, and probably never will end his inhumanity toward his fellowman.
