The France 24 website reports today (August 10, 2012) that a tradition will be revived in France next week when a "Prayer for France" will be read out at Catholic churches across the country. The text -- which attacks the government's plan to legalize same-sex marriage -- has angered France's gay rights groups.
The controversial "Prayer for France" has been sent out to churches across the country to be read out on August 15 to mark the feast of the Assumption.
The prayer's subject matter is designed to mobilize Catholics against Francois Hollande's Socialist Party government, which recently affirmed plans to open up marriage and adoption to gay couples.
The planned prayer has angered gay rights groups across France, who have slammed the Catholic Church for "homophobia" and interfering in politics.
