This week, the Life Legal Defense Foundation sent a letter to the FBI because it threatened and questioned pro-life advocate Andrew Moore at his home in Dallas, Texas on July 13, 2012. The letter demands that that the FBI stop its harassment, which it referred to as "Gestapo tactics," and said the Foundation would take the FBI to court if its harassment continues.
Dana Cody, executive director of the Life Legal Defense Foundation, said, "The FBI used bullying tactics and intimidated Mr. Moore. Cody added, "It's deplorable that they want to silence his constitutionally-protected free speech rights."
Cody even went so far in the letter as to criticize the FBI for conducting a "witch hunt" on anyone who is openly critical of the Obama administration's pro-abortion position.
The fact is that the FBI needs to keep in mind that the U.S. Constitution protects a person's freedom of association, freedom of speech, and free exercise of religion.
Moreover, it is imperative that the FBI adheres to a modus operandi that treats all individuals fairly, and does not try to intimidate them because of their beliefs.
Needless to say, the FBI should not be targeting peaceful pro-life protesters, simply because they are critical of the Obama administration's support of abortions. To target these individuals violates the constitutional rights to which they are entitled.
For the FBI to harass these peaceful protesters is indeed using "Gestapo tactics" that were popular in Nazi Germany under Adolf Hitler during World War II.
The United States is a democratic nation that must not use Gestapo tactics. To use these tactics today -- in an effort to silence anti-abortion activists -- contradicts the U.S. Constitution, and serves as an insult to America's founding fathers, who worked so diligently to ensure that they and future generations enjoy their freedom in this great nation.
