The One News Now website reports today (June 12, 2012) that Sheena Monnin, Miss Pennsylvania, is giving up her beauty queen crown, because of her objection to men who have undergone gender-reassignment surgery being allowed to compete in the Miss Universe competition.
Monnin based her objections on her faith, stating that to allow and support natural-born males to compete in the pageant "goes against every moral fiber of my being."
In April, the pageant changed its rules to allow a 23-year-old transgendered male -- now known as Jenna Talackova -- to compete in the Miss Universe Canada pageant.
Matt Barber of Liberty Counsel Action believes Monnin should be commended for objecting to a man competing in the pageant. Barber said Monnin gave up a great deal in surrendering her crown, and he suggests that Christians ought to think of not watching the extravaganza.
