The Europe News website reports today (June 18, 2012) that roast pork and sausages -- which have always been a staple of British diets -- will no longer be served in England's schools because of "religious reasons."
Pork -- which is not eaten by devout Jews or Muslims -- has been banned by councils across the country to satisfy the needs of staff and pupils who are not allowed contact with it.
The decision has been criticized by MPs (members of parliament) who have said that the ban will cause unnecessary resentment among pupils.
Religious leaders in Britain said they never asked for the ban.
