"God Bless the USA" Song Pulled from Ceremony; Principal Calls It "Age-Inappropriate, Offensive"

The Daily Caller website reports today (June 11, 2012) that a Coney Island principal has pulled Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA" song from a kindergarten "moving up" ceremony, claiming that Greenwood's patriotic song was "age-inappropriate and potentially offensive."

"We don't want to offend other cultures," Greta Hawkins, the principal of the Edna Cohen School, said to defend her decision to nix "God Bless the USA" from the ceremony.

Many parents -- including many immigrants -- are frustrated by Hawkins' decision.

Hawkins -- a Jehovah's Witness -- does not participate in the Pledge of Allegiance for religious reasons. According to insiders, she has attempted to get that ritual scrapped at the school as well. Based on numerous  complaints it has received regarding her authoritarianism, the United Federation of Teachers has labeled Hawkins a "bully."
