Six-Year-Old Handcuffed Due to School Tantrum; Police Take Her to Holding Cell at Police Station

The Daily Beast website reports that a 6-year-old Georgia girl today (April 17, 2012) was handcuffed by police and taken to the station, after she threw furniture and knocked over a shelf at her school.

Young Salecia Johnson's family is outraged, saying that the way police responded to the disturbance at Creekside Elementary School was way out of line.

The police cited policy in support of their decision to handcuff the kindergartner and stick her in a holding cell.

Police Chief Dray Swicord of Milledgeville, Georgia said, "There is no age discrimination" on transporting detainees to our station and handcuffing them in the back.
