Christians Travel to Jerusalem to Mark Holy Week; Jesus Entered Jerusalem a Week before His Death

The Christian Post website reports today (April 2, 2012) that hundreds of Christian visitors were in Jerusalem yesterday -- Palm Sunday -- the first day of Holy Week for Roman Catholic and Protestant Christians. (Greek Orthodox Christians celebrate Palm Sunday and Easter one week later than Catholics and Protestants this year.)

Pilgrims joined a procession of about 15,000 Christians that began at the Mount of Olives. To remember Jesus' entry into Jerusalem the Sunday before His crucifixion, marchers carried palm and olive branches.

The Church of the Holy Sepulchre -- which held a special Palm Sunday Mass -- is believed to be located on the site where Jesus was crucified.

Bethlehem's Nativity Church -- believed to be the site where Jesus was born -- also held a special service.
