Vatican officials are expressing an openness to allowing older, married men to become priests in remote areas like the Amazon in South America, the Christian Post website reports today (January 19, 2019).
A working document was prepared in advance of the Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops for the Pan-Amazonian Region, scheduled to take place in October.
The document also also asks the the Synod to consider allowing married men of good status to become priests.
The Vatican noted that consideration of allowing the ordination of married men was in response to the lack of priests in the region.
