Standing under an oversized sign for a village his temporary government has no authority to build, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took his friendship with Donald Trump to a new level today (June 16, 2019), by inaugurating "Trump Heights" in the Syrian-occupied Golan Heights, according to the RT website.
"It's a historic day," said Israel's prime minister, standing next to U.S. ambassador David Friedman.
Netanyahu spoke of the name as a symbol of gratitude for Trump's decisions to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital and Golan as part of Israel.
The Golan Heights region was seized from Syria by Israel and annexed to the Jewish state following the Six-Day War in 1967. The United Nations still recognizes the Golan Heights as part of Syria, not Israel.
