Chanting for equality and holding brightly painted signs supporting LGBT rights, some 10,000-15,000 people marched in Jerusalem's annual pride parade on the evening of June 6, with over 2,000 police securing the highly charged event four years after a deadly attack on participants, according to the Times of Israel website.
Police said 49 people were arrested, including one carrying a knife.
The detainees were suspected of "intending to disturb the event and parade," a police statement said.
The parade came hours after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appointed Likud lawmaker Amir Ohana as justice minister, making him the first openly gay cabinet member in Israel's history.
