Palestinians closed schools and shops and called for protests across the West Bank today (December 7, 2017), in a show of anger over U.S. President Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, according to the Euro News website.
Trump's announcement yesterday reversed decades of U.S. policy on Jerusalem, which both Israelis and Palestinians claim.
Trump's move was seen as siding with Israel's government, which says it won't give any part of Jerusalem to the Palestinians.
The powerful Palestinian Islamist group Hamas -- which Israel and the U.S. view as a terrorist organization -- has called on Muslims and Arabs to hold rallies tomorrow (December 8), calling it a "day of rage."
