Swedish TV Apologizes for Anti-Semitic News; Said Jewish Lobby Controls US Foreign Policy

Sweden's main public TV broadcaster has apologized for an article that tied President Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital to the strength of the U.S. "Jewish Lobby," the JTA (Jewish Telegraphic Agency) website reports today (December 8, 2017).

In a broadcast on December 6 -- immediately following Trump's address about Jerusalem -- the broadcaster SVT asserted that the "Jewish Lobby in the U.S. is incredibly strong," and that the lobby "has championed this issue for a long time."

"It was an unfortunate choice of words that immediately was corrected by our senior news commentator," Charlotta Friborg, executive editor and publisher of SVT News said.

Viewers had complained online that the assertion promoted anti-Semitic stereotypes about Jewish control over United States foreign policy. Palestinians believe that they have been betrayed by Trump for favoring Israel and for denying them any part of Jerusalem, and the Palestinians will now most likely no longer allow the U.S. to serve as the mediator -- as it has for decades -- in negotiating a non-biased Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement.
