The RIA Novosti (Russian) website reports today (August 19, 2011) that a court in central Russia has ruled that a painting of the Sermon on the Mount that features Mickey Mouse -- instead of Jesus Christ -- is extremist.
The painting will now be banned from exhibitions, newspapers, magazines, and television.
The case was heard in a court in the Kaluga Region, after a local resident complained to authorities.
The court agreed with the prosecutor that Alexander Savko's Sermon on the Mount painting is an extremely cynical and mocking insult to the religious beliefs and feelings of Orthodox Christian believers.
