The Washington Times website reports today (August 4, 2011) that Yankees star -- and three-time American League Most Valuable Player (MVP) -- Alex Rodriguez will be interviewed by Major League Baseball as part of its investigation of his involvement in illegal poker games.
"We take this very seriously and have been investigating this matter since the initial allegation," MLB (Major League Baseball) said yesterday in a statement. "As part of the investigation, the commissioner's office will interview Mr. Rodriguez."
The 36-year-old Rodriguez -- usually referred to in baseball circles by his nickname A-Rod -- had right-knee surgery on July 14, and was not available for comment. He is expected to rejoin the Yankees today.
A-Rod ranks sixth on the career home run list with 626. He needs 137 more to break the record of Barry Bonds -- who has been accused of using steroids during his baseball career.
