Vandals have spray-painted graffiti that proclaims "Death to Christianity" and "Jesus, Son of a Whore" on a Greek Orthodox monastery in Jerusalem, the Spero Forum website reports today (December 14, 2012).
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu denounced the vandalism, which occurred overnight on December 12.
Micky Rosenfield -- a spokesperson for Israeli police -- said the vandals also sprayed the words "price tag" in Hebrew on the monastery's outer wall. This is taken to mean that the vandalism was done by Jewish extremists as a form of punishment of settlers and sympathizers in Israel whose institutions are seen as being in favor of the Palestinian cause.
This week's vandalism on the Monastery of the Holy Cross is the fifth major attack in Israel against a Christian site this year.
