In what can be viewed as one of the most hateful anti-Semitic acts in the United States, a large menorah -- covered in seashells and used to spread the light of Hanukkah at Miami Beach in Florida -- was vandalized on December 2, scrawled with black graffiti stating "You Killed Jesus" on its base, the Jewish Press website reports today (December 6, 2012).
December 2nd marked the 11th anniversary of the first time the religious symbol was vandalized, with the beach-themed Hanukkah vessel being torn down thrree times in its first year on display.
The menorah -- a sign of peace and joy in the Jewish religion -- is lit annually by Chabad Rabbi Zev Katz. "We're not going to be discouraged, we're going to keep going," Katz said regarding the hateful crime.
The damaged shells have already been replaced, and Miami police are investigating the incident.
