Former pop singer Frankie Valens is now the pastor of First Christian Church in Syracuse, Kansas, the Christian Broadcast Network website reports today (December 19, 2012).
Famous for such songs as "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes," "This Magic Moment," and "She Cried," Valens' music career took off in the late 1960s.
Born Frank Piper, he changed his name to Valens after becoming famous.
His father -- Bernie Piper -- pastored the same church in 1978 and 1979. Valens says he relies on the Lord -- and at times, the Internet -- for sermon ideas, and is using his singing talents for the Lord.
