The Christian Broadcast Network website reports today (December 18, 2011) that Chinese police in the village of Xintan broke up a public Christmas celebration before it even started.
The Xintan Village Church said it had permission to hold an outdoor event on the village square.
Church members said the police officers rushed the stage, wrecked a mixing console, turned over an electric piano, and pushed and punched worshipers amid the Christmas decorations, injuring five believers.
A Chinese religious affairs official said an outdoor event of religious nature is strictly banned from being organized.
