Catholics Buy Bankrupt Mega-Crystal Cathedral; Orange County Calif. Diocese Pays $57.5M for It

The Los Angeles Times website reports today (November 18, 2011) that the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange County, California is buying the Protestant megachurch the Christian Cathedral for $57.5 million.

The formerly Protestant Crystal Cathedral -- which filed for bankruptcy last year -- is a monument of 20th century modernist architecture.

Rev. Robert Schuller, 85, founded his ministry there half a century ago.

The Catholic News Agency reports there are more than a million Catholics in Orange County.
