The Slate website reports today (November 28, 2011) that Kansas Governor Sam Brownback is sorry his office made such a big deal of an obscene tweet about him from a teen last week.
"My staff overreacted to this tweet, and for that I apologize," Brownback said in a statement to the news media this afternoon. He added, "Freedom of speech is among our most treasured freedoms."
After coming across 18-year-old Emma Sullivan's tweet -- which said that the Kansas governor "sucked" and included #heblowsalot -- last week, Brownback's office flagged it, and her school principal, Karl Krawitz, demanded Sullivan write a letter of apology to Brownback.
School officials said today the high school student -- who refuses to apologize to Brownback -- will not be disciplined, because of her constitutionally-protected freedom of speech.
