Tombstones and Crosses Damaged as Hoodlums Attack Serb Cemetery Near Pristina, Kosovo

A Serb cemetery has been vandalized in a village near Pristina, Kosovo, the Balkan Insight website reports today.

The desecration of the cemetery in the village of Rabovce near Lipljan was discovered yesterday (March 31, 2010), and Kosovo police confirmed that they were investigating.

Several tombstones and crosses were damaged in the attack.

Fletcher Burton, deputy head of the International Civilian Office, and Kosovo's government have condemned "this act of vandalism."

Mr. Burton said, "Bringing the perpetrators to justice can support existing positive inter-ethnic relations in the village, and underline that Kosovo is making all efforts to become a homeland for all its citizens."
