A Russian Orthodox priest was shot dead before the evening services in Chuvashia, Russia on Saturday, April 24, 2010, the Pravmir (Russian) website reports today.

Archpriest Anatoly Sorokin, 46, of Chuvashia was shot before the evening services, says Bishop Savvatz of Buratia in his blog.

The Rector of St. Nicholas Church in Yantikovo and father of five children, Fr. Sorokin came from a very religious family and was always very cheerful, said Bishop Savvaty.

Fr. Sorokin's wife told Bishop Savvaty that her husband had been shot in the back, and the bullet went directly into his heart.
