Pope's Birthplace in Germany Vandalized with Grafitti on Catholic Sex Abuse Scandal

Blue grafitti on the birthplace of Pope Benedict XVI in Marktl, Germany was quickly painted over today (April 13, 2010), according to the Worldwide Religious News website.

A police spokesman in nearby Rosenheim confirmed the overnight vandalism, but declined to say what had been written on the building -- a former police station where Joseph Ratzinger (now Pope Benedict XVI) was born in 1927.

"It was insulting," the police spokesman said, and conceded that it referred to the scandal over sex abuse by Catholic priests in Europe and North America. A woman passerby discovered the blue paint on the building at dawn today and informed police.

Pope Benedict turns 83 this Friday, April 16, 2010.
