The streets of Kiev, Ukraine today became filled with songs of praise and thanks, as some 500,000 evangelical Christians gathered to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation, according to the Worthy News website.
"Many traveled from all four provinces there just to be part of the celebration, to thank God for the freedom of worship, to thank God for the freedom to preach the Gospel in the country, and to celebrate God's faithfulness," Sergey Rakhuba with Mission Eurasia said.
The gathering came after Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko signed an order recognizing the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.
The Protestant Reformation began in 1517, and was sparked by Catholic cleric Martin Luther's criticism of the sale of indulgences by the Catholic Church, in order to hasten the time a deceased loved one would enter heaven.
